Irungu Nyakera, the newly appointed KEMSA board chair, has stated that he will clean up the medical supplies authority, Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
Nyakera acknowledged that KEMSA had been plagued by graft in the past and promised to clean it up.
“The agency has been riddled with graft for the last few years and I thank President William Ruto for believing in me to deliver KEMSA from the mess. We will clean the mess, that I can assure Kenyans.”
The president fired Public Health PS Dr Josephine Mburu, suspended Kenya Medical Supplies Authority CEO Terry Ramadhani, and fired the agency’s entire board over a KES 4 billion mosquito net supply scandal.
Furthermore, KEMSA’s board of directors has been reconstituted. Following Terry Ramadhani’s suspension, Andrew Mulwa, Directorate of Promotive and Preventive Health, has been appointed as KEMSA’s acting CEO.
Irungu previously served as Kenya’s youngest Principal Secretary in the State Department of Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development.
He was eyeing the Murang’a gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 elections as a candidate for his Farmers party.
