Traders of the famous Buruburu’s Mutindwa Market are counting losses after a morning inferno burnt down their stalls.
According to preliminary reports, the traders were unable to salvage any of their goods even as some members of the public took the opportunity to loot.
Firefighters from nearby Kangundo Road Fire Station were unable to put out the fire on time as the inferno raged.
Properties worth Sh100 million were lost in the inferno.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje revealed that the fire which started at around 2 am, was aggressive.
“Traders at Mutindwa Market have lost goods worth over Sh100 million following the 2 am inferno… Poleni sana watu wangu, we will assess the damage and we must rebuild,” he said in a statement.
The MP said he was in constant communication with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja Johnson and has called upon City Hall to send additional Fire Engines.
