A Kangundo court fined two ladies from Matungulu, Machakos County, Ksh.1.5 million in a defamation lawsuit where they accused a man of impregnating a child.
Lydia Mbondo and Juliana Musyoka of Katine sub-location were found guilty of defaming Joseph Kioko by disseminating false information that he had defiled and impregnated a child on several days in December 2016.
According to Kioko, a father of three, the defamation was done by talking and through a section of media where he was humiliated, ridiculed, contemptuously treated, and his self-esteem was damaged.
In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Martha Opanga said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Kioko was not involved in the defilement accusations.
This was done through DNA tests conducted by two separate institutions after the girl gave birth.
The two women were ordered to pay the sum as general and exemplary damages.
