Mugithi Mchele Babes: Two Women Detained After Drugging Man To Death

Two middle-aged women were arraigned today in a Kisii Law court on a miscellaneous application to detain them for allegedly drugging a man who later died after attending a mugithi festival in Kisii.

Purity Kajuju and Caroline Kagwira appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Ogweno over the death of Francis Kariuki, who was allegedly drugged while attending Musician Samido’s show at El Paraiso resort in Kisii town.

In her affidavit, the investigation officer at Nyanchwa police station stated that she is investigating the death of Kariuki, who was discovered unconscious and asleep at his house by a colleague on June 23rd, who then reported the matter to Nyanchwa police station.

“The police officers from Nyanchwa and Kisii central visited Kariuki’s house and found him dead, his body was moved to Hema Hospital as we launched an investigation,” said the IO.

His colleague said Kariuki had two phones; Tecno and Itel phones and upon searching in his house the phones were missing.

In their investigations, the officers established his Itel phone with an Airtel line with the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) located in Nairobi with a different mobile service provider.

“One of the respondents was arrested in Kisii on the same day while the other one was arrested on the 29th of June in Nairobi,” the IO told the court.

She noted that the postmortem report didn’t identify the cause of death, however, they took samples for toxicology tests at the government chemist.

In her application, the IO asked for 14 days to detain the suspects as she completed investigations.

The court allowed the two to be detained at Nyanchwa police station and reappear in court on the 11th of August
