CS Kindiki Issues Shoot To Kill Order Against Bandits Targeting Police

Interior Cabinet Secretary(CS) Kithure Kindiki on Friday gave a shoot-to-kill order against criminals targeting security camps or security officers.

The CS said any criminal shooting police officer who has been bestowed the duty to protect Kenyans will be dealt with ruthlessly.

He emphasized the government’s intentions to end regional insecurity while commissioning a General Service Unit (GSU) camp in Tiaty Constituency, Baringo County.

“Any criminal who will try to use a weapon to shoot or try to harm a police officer, will go on a one-way trip. We will buy him a ticket on a journey where you don’t come back,” he said.

The CS noted that the security agencies manning the regions would deal with the criminals causing havoc in the North Rift region.

“The Government will not profile or criminalize any community. Security officers must with law-abiding citizens to identify the few criminal elements who terrorize innocent residents, impoverish them economically, and taint the image of an entire community,” the CS said.

Kindiki warned that areas gazetted as disturbed and dangerous zones on February 13, 2023, remain out of bounds by members of the public until they are declared peaceful.

Additionally, he said that the govt will install several camps in Tiaty to quell incessant banditry in the area.

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket called on the government to allocate more administrative units to reclaim areas bandits had taken as their haven.

Further, he called for the deployment of National Police Reservists to compliment the GSU officers in tracking down bandits who still reign in the area, causing havoc.

Silale has been a haven for bandits to stage attacks in neighboring Samburu and Turkana counties and hide in the area.
