Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he has no wish to be recognized as the Mt Kenya region’s kingpin.
Gachagua told churchgoers in Kiambu County on Sunday that he is content with his status as Deputy President and urged those interested in the Mt Kenya kingdom to apply.
“I have read the constitution, there is no provision for a kingpin. Where is the kingpin office? How much is his salary? If there are people who want that office, I am not part of it, I am deputy president,”
According to Gachagua, his goal is for the region to rally behind President William Ruto, especially those who supported the Azimio la Umoja Coalition in the 2022 elections.
“When I called for the unity of this region. I did not call for the unity of this region behind me, I called for the unity of this region behind President William Ruto,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua’s remarks come amid debate over who, between him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the rightful ruler.
