The Mombasa Malindi highway is currently impassable after a section of the Mbogolo bridge was swept away by raging floods on Saturday morning.

The road was totally cut off after floods destroyed the approach road on the Mombasa side.

Another section of the highway was submerged in water and rendered impassable at Mtondia a few kilometers from Kilifi town.

Vehicles are forced to drop passengers near the bridge and walk on foot through another bridge that is under construction.

Mnarani Ward Member of County assembly Juma Chengo blamed the contractor who is repairing the highway for blocking waterways and reducing the river channel hindering the flow of water.

Matatu drivers plying the route have said the situation has affected them in that they have to pay for their passengers to board other vehicles to their destination once they get there.
