Hundreds of fans gathered to bid farewell to singer-actor Prashant Tamang, the beloved Indian Idol winner whose rise to fame two decades ago made him a source of immense pride for India’s Gorkha community.
Tamang, 43, died of a cardiac arrest at his home in Delhi on Sunday.

His body was returned on Monday to his hometown of Darjeeling in West Bengal, where admirers paid their respects and flooded social media with tributes to his life and sudden passing.
For the Nepali-speaking Gorkha community, predominantly residing in India’s Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and northeastern states, Tamang’s successful career in music and film was more than personal achievement—it was a symbol of cultural recognition and collective aspiration.
