Two women were killed by lightning in Kinangop inside Aberdare forest, Nyandarua County in an incident.
The two identified as Ruth Wangui aged, 18, and Mary Kinyua,52, had been tilling on a piece of land in the forest when it started to rain.
Police and a survivor said they took shelter under a tree when the lightning struck in the Monday afternoon incident.
A survivor told police that the incident occurred while they were working on compartment number 7H inside the forest in North Kinangop.
According to police who responded to the scene, the women had been working at the site for days as part of the Shamba Programme.
The survivor was rescued from the scene long after the incident had occurred and taken to hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Police said the deceased had no physical injuries at the time they removed the bodies to the mortuary.
Such incidents are common in the area, and residents have urged authorities to install arresters to curb the trend.
