Air tickets to Nairobi from Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret after Christmas are set to double.
This has been greatly attributed to high demand from passengers traveling back to the city.
Tickets on the budget carrier Jambojet from Mombasa to Nairobi have risen from a low of Sh6,400 for those traveling today to a high of Sh14,280 for travelers booking on December 27, with the ticket anticipated to rise more as the travel date approaches.
After the Christmas break and the Boxing Day holiday on Monday, a large number of people will be returning to the city, increasing demand for air travel amid airline capacity constraints.
Because of low demand, the cost of a one-way ticket from the coast and western Kenya to Nairobi has remained low.
Travelers from the capital to Mombasa, Kisumu, Ukunda, Eldoret, Malindi, and Lamu will part with higher fares.
For example, a customer flying from Nairobi to Kisumu on Jambojet today (Friday) will pay Sh16,400, while those returning from the same destination will pay Sh16,400.
For travelers flying from Mombasa to Nairobi on the evening flight on December 27, Kenya Airways would charge Sh18,545 for a one-way ticket, while morning and mid-day trips will cost Sh9,750, with Fly 540 costing up to Sh10,540 on the same day.
