Al-Shabaab militants yesterday attacked Dadajabula police station in Wajir, which is located 13km from the Kenya-Somalia boarder.
The gang was armed with rocket-propelled grenades which they used in the attack injuring three police officers and two of their fellow militants detained in the Police station and further leaving massive destruction.
Reports indicate that the attack was aimed at rescuing the two al- shabaab militants locked up in the station and that there were plans to transfer the suspects to another station before the gang raided.
The two militants are suspected to have been high value suspects as they were pulled from the police cells and killed.
The attack happened when it was still raining with heavy gunfire exchange between the security forces and the attackers, shortly guns fell silent and two suspects were found lifeless with two police officers nursing injuries.
One police officer is reported to have been shot on the hip while the other has bullet in his stomach, they were rushed to the Dadajabula Dispensary with plans underway to accord them specialized treatment.
However,it is not yet clear whether the two suspects were killed by bullets from the Kenya Defence Forces or the Al-shaab but it is highly suspected that the attackers killed the suspects in custody to conceal some information about the Al-shabaab
