More security personnel have been sent to Konton area, Wajir County after Al-Shabaab gunmen raided a mosque there and tried to kidnap worshipers who were attending morning prayers.
The gang of about five was armed when they stormed the mosque and took the 40 worshipers who were present before driving them to a thicket while headed to the Kenya-Somalia border.
It took the intervention of National Police Reserve personnel to send the gunmen scampering to free the abducted Kenyans.
There are fears of more attacks by the gunmen amid calls for more reinforcement.
There have been such past attacks on locals and targeted at government officials. A hunt on the attackers is ongoing.
