New details of court of appeal judge Professor Otieno Odek’s death have now emerged after he collapsed and died in Kisumu t his home in Groove hut Apartments in Milimani Estate.
According to a report by one of the local dailies, Odek was found dead on his bed with blood oozing from his ears and other open body parts.
Vincent Makokha the Nyanza regional police commander Vincent Makokha told the media that Odek’s body did not have any signs of physical injury.
It was also reported that Odek’s driver went to pick him up as usual but found his door locked .
The driver then reported the matter to the police who had to break the door to gain access to the house.
The report further indicates that the deceased body was partly covered with a blanket as his head lay on one of his hands but the cause of his death is yet to be established.
The late judghe was sworn in to the court of appeal bench in 2012.
Several leaders and judicial officers mourned Justice Odek as a distinguished judge and a prolific legal scholar celebrated across the continent.

President Uhuru Kenyatta while mourning the late judge, said the loss is not only a big blow to his close family and the judiciary but also to the whole country which he served with commitment and dedication in the dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
“In this hour of sorrow and grief, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Prof Justice James Otieno Odek’s family, relatives and friends,” President Kenyatta said. The President prayed to God to comfort and give fortitude to the family at this trying moment.
In 2018, the late judge was listed to be a prosecution witness in the case against top lawyer Tom Ojienda over the Sh 89m Mumias Sugar fraud.
