The Teachers Service Commission has announced that all Grade 10 learners are ready to transition to senior secondary schools following the release of the first Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment results under the Competency Based Curriculum.
The TSC chief executive, Eveleen Mitei, said the commission has put in place the systems needed to support what will be one of the most significant shifts in the country’s education landscape.

Mitei said the commission is prepared to ensure an orderly and well coordinated move for learners as they progress to the next phase of the reformed curriculum.
The KJSEA examination was administered to more than one million learners across twenty four thousand three hundred and sixty six junior secondary schools. According to the Kenya National Examinations Council chief executive, Mercy Njengere, the assessment covered nine subjects that included mathematics, languages, sciences, social studies, ICT, creative arts, physical education and technical skills.
Education officials said parents would receive information on school placements before Christmas. Authorities hope the early communication will give families enough time to prepare for the new academic year.
The Education Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, confirmed that the first cohort under the Competency Based Curriculum will report to senior secondary schools on twelve January, marking what he described as a historic moment in the implementation of long awaited reforms. Bitok said the transition will allow learners to continue their studies without interruption while benefiting from a system that prioritises practical skills, creativity and critical thinking.
The Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education are working jointly to address staffing needs and ensure that facilities and learning materials are adequate for the influx of new senior school students. Officials said the focus now is on strengthening infrastructure and ensuring that teachers receive the support required to deliver the curriculum effectively.
