All Set As Kenya Marks 58 Years of Self Rule

The 2021 Madaraka Day celebrations held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium is scheduled to attract 3000 visitors, the bulk of whom have already arrived at the location.

The invitation was solely via card, in light of the COVID-19 threat in the region. Other Kisumu residents are encouraged to watch the festivities from home.

Security personnel struggled to keep a portion of citizens who arrived into the Stadium without a ticket under control.

Along the city roads, residents have lined up in large numbers to watch the President’s motorcade.

The event’s honoree will be President Evariste Ndayishimiye of the Republic of Burundi, flanked by a delegation of African leaders and their representatives.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to arrive at the venue shortly before 11.am.
