Ang’ata Bloodshed: Gachagua Blasts Police Over Brutal Crackdown

Former Deputy President has condemned the tragic killing of five citizens and the injuring of several others, including a police officer, during a violent land standoff in Ang’ata Barikoi, Narok County.

The deadly clash reportedly stemmed from disputes over a 6,000-acre parcel of land that residents have occupied for decades.

In a heartfelt statement, the former Deputy President expressed outrage over the “insatiable appetite” by certain leaders for land grabbing and wealth accumulation, warning that Kenya risks sinking deeper into lawlessness and autocracy.

“My heart goes out to the families of the five innocent people who have been shot dead,” he said.

“The sanctity and preciousness of human life, which is a gift from God, seems to have been thrown to the dogs by vicious autocrats.”

He further linked the violence in Ang’ata Barikoi to a worrying pattern of state brutality, recalling the deaths of young people during the recent Gen Z protests.

Gachagua labelled the forceful displacement of the community a “crime against humanity,” vowing to gather evidence, name, and shame those responsible for the violence.

“We cannot afford, as a nation, to live under dictatorship and brutality when the world is advancing toward prosperity and citizen dignity,” he declared.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
