KNUT secretary-general Wilson Sossion caused drama at the requiem mass to honor the dead Kakamega Primary stampede victims.
He lashed out at the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha, Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang, and Kakamega Governor Oparanya.
“I will state the truth here and may God help me…. I want to read a verse in Matthew which states that whosoever does harm to these children, may a stone be hung on their necks. Someone is responsible for the deaths of these pupils.” said Sossion, as the crowd cheered him on.
Attempts to have him cut off were futile as the crowd gathered at Bukhungu cheered Sossion on.
He went on to state that the innocent students died out of negligence by the government.
“The enrolment of these pupils is the largest we have seen, 3,000 and in Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) we have 3500. The pupils died out of negligence,” said Sossion.
Sossion called upon the government through the education ministry, to review the enrollment numbers of schools adding that congestion in learning institutions is a ticking time bomb.
He warned that the union will take action if any case of students dying in schools is ever heard again.
“If we hear such a scenario ever again, we shall halt all education services in Kenya immediately. Another issue is that no one should conduct business with our pupils. New buildings should be inspected,” Sossion stated.
