State holds requiem mass for Kakamega pupils, allocates 1.4 Million to parents

A requiem mass for the 14 pupils of Kakamega primary school who died in a stampede is underway at the  Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega county. 

Top ministry of education officials led by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, teachers union officials, MPs,  ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya are in attendance.

Three days after the pupils lost their lives, the country is yet to know what caused the stampede.

Parents from the school are pleading with the government to provide answers. There have been no investigations update from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Education PS Belio Kipsang assured that the government had issued Ksh 100,000 to the affected families.

“I want to assure all that the government shares in your grief. We assist with the little we can and therefore the government shall issue Ksh 100,000 to all families affected and will take care of all the students admitted in the hospital. ” read the statement in part.
