Angry Mob Attacks Kilifi Poet

Angry residents of Ganze in Kilifi County had to stop a Kilifi poet from praising the just formed Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) political party during a public baraza in Ganze town.

The fracas that lasted for several minutes stopped the meeting after Safari Mwadanda, a Kilifi poet narrated a poem in praise of Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and his efforts to form PAA.

Governor Kingi is the brainchild behind the political party after his fallout with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

“Kilifi Tunapaa na Governor na Ganze tunapaa na Tungule,” Mwadanda recited the poem but before he could finish, his microphone was switched off before a group chanting Anti- PAA slogan started singing in praise of the Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire.

Mr Mwambire is a close ally of Mr Odinga and is currently the ODM chairman in Kilifi County after the ouster of Governor Amason Kingi this year.

Hell broke up after the two groups, now tried to counter each other in chants and songs, disrupting the otherwise would have been a peaceful public baraza.

Within moments all the leaders including the area MP Teddy Mwambire, Governor Amason Kingi, Senator Stewart Madzayo, Owen Baya, Mbeyu Mwanyanje stepped in to cool the situation but the meeting could not proceed because of the fracas, as thus ending prematurely. Later, Governor Kingi and Mr Baya condemned the incident saying it was portraying Ganze in bad light.

“This is petty politics and we should not degenerate into such,” said Mr Baya.

Furious Kingi said what he witnessed in Ganze was uncalled for and that leaders must stop from such engagements.

“I did not expect this from the good leaders in Ganze. It should not happen because we need Ganze that has a community bonded together in faith and peace,” he said.

When contacted by Uzalendo News, Mr Mwambire also condemned the incident saying that some people had planned to disrupt his baraza that he had organized for the Transport CS James Macharia to address.

“These were hired people who had been brought to disrupt the otherwise peaceful engagement, but it’s a lesson learnt. We shall not allow this in future because Ganze needs to arise above this petty and cowardly act,” Mr Mwambire said.
