Ardhi Sasa — President Uhuru’s New Weapon Against Land Grabbers

Welcome to the age of the modern land registry, which has replaced the old manual land register that has assisted cartels for decades while marginalizing the majority of Kenyans. – By Caleb Mwicha.

President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS) which is the result of years of digitisation of haphazard land records.

The launch of Ardhi Sasa, a game-changing digital land database, coincided with the launch of a National Geospatial Data Centre, an online repository that will house all of the country’s land records.

All Kenyans, starting with land owners and buyers in Nairobi, will now be able to perform land searches, apply for title deeds, sell properties, and almost any other activity involving land, with the exception of resolving disputes, at the touch of a button.

Land registry systems under the abolished land registration laws will be merged into one within the next year, with all titles obtained under the repealed laws being revoked and replaced with titles issued under the Land Registration Act, 2012.
