Kilifi gubernatorial aspirant Gideon Mungaro is on the spot after Malindi residents Residents told him off over national government projects in the region.
They are up in arms over the Devolution Chief Administrative Secretary who says he is behind the Multibillion roads projects.
The angry residents wondered why Mr Mu’ngaro was going around telling people he is the one who initiated the Malindi Salagate road, Baricho bridge, Mavueni Mariakani road, and Bamba Mariakani road yet it was not true.
Last Saturday while addressing members of the public during church fundraising in Kijiwetanga Malindi the CAS said he is the one who pushed for the projects when he was Coast parliamentary Group Chairman.
Residents who know the genesis of the projects staged a protest at Ganda area along the Malindi Salagate road and urged him to tell Kilifians the truth instead of using lies so as to be elected as Governor.
The residents said Mung’aro, is lying to people that he is behind the multi-billion projects yet they know it was Kenyan envoy to Tanzania Dan Kazungu who pushed for the projects when he was MP for Malindi
One of the residents, Rehema John said at Kijiwetanga that they are aware that Malindi Salagate road and Baricho bridge were initiated by Kenyan Envoy to Tanzania Dan Kazungu when he served as MP in Malindi for two and a half years before being appointed as Cabinet Secretary by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at Ganda area she said they are so sad as Malindi residents to hear leaders with ambitions to be elected in the oncoming elections lying in public so as to win the hearts of the public.
She said the road from Malindi to Salagate was pathetic but when Kazungu was elected MP he initiated plans to have the road tarmacked.
“We are very bitter as Malindi residents because we are aware of the projects initiated by Dan Kazungu we have a bridge, the road why can a leader like Mung’aro stand in public to lie to people about projects he did not initiate,” he said.
She said all politicians aspiring for political seats should not ride on other people’s projects and ensure they tell the truth.
Joana Mangisi a resident of Ganda said he is among those who walked from Malindi to Baolala with Kazungu after the project was approved by the government.
He said the road was very dusty during those years and with the efforts of Kazungu the project was done and now it’s tarmacked up to Salagate.
“Mung’aro has done nothing, he has no single projects despite the fact that he has served in government, now he is lying to the people of Kilifi because he wants to be elected,” he said.
Feiswal Kitorobe said it’s wrong for people to campaign for their elections using the Malindi Salagate road.
He said Mung’aro should stop bragging about the project as the Kenyan envoy to Tanzania is the one behind the projects.
“Mungaro is a false prophet let him tell the people the truth if he wants to be elected as Governor,” he said.
Brian Chenze said it was sad that a leader who has served as Malindi mayor, MP for Malindi, Kilifi North does not have something to show to the public and is riding on other people’s projects.
He said when Kazungu was elected MP he sat with all tourism stakeholders and they told him to make sure the road was tarmacked to promote the sector.
“People walked from Alaskan to Baolala and government gave funding to ensure its tarmacked,” he said.
Emmanuel Nzai an aspirant of Malindi town Ward and a close ally of the former CS said it was a shame for a leader to use such tactics of lies so as to win people’s hearts.
He said Kazungu first brought the then Principal secretary John Mosonic and Engineer Makori after which they announced that the project would be done.
Nzai said apart from the road the former CS pushed for upgrading of Malindi international airport which many leaders were afraid of for fear of being voted out of power.
In his statement, Mung’aro said he fought very hard to make sure the Malindi Salagate road was tarmacked.
