Assistant Chief Jailed Over A Ksh 20,000 Bribe

A court has sentenced an assistant chief in Ngong to two years jail term for receiving a bribe.

Raphael Gichuru Gathigi, Senior Assistant Chief of Lower Matasia Sub-Location in Ngong Sub-County, who is accused of committing the crime in 2021, appeared before Milimani Anti-Corruption Courts on Tuesday, May 2.

The assistant chief sought payment of Ksh. 20,000 in order to accept drafting a letter to the Ngong Kajiado County Lands Registrar lifting a limitation on the complainant’s plot.

He was arrested the same day he received Ksh.15,000 as part of the bribe after handing over to the complainant the letter he needed to ask the Land Registrar of Ngong to remove the restriction on his land.

He was initially charged on January 17, 2023, then pled not guilty.

However, when the case was called again in Court, he asked to change his plea.

He has since been sentenced to two years in jail, or an alternative fine of Ksh. 100,000.
