Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s presidential contender, has broken his silence on Saturday’s General Election, which opposition parties called a sham.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate who came second behind Bola Tinibu of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) claimed he won the poll and will seek redress in the Supreme Court despite his lack of faith in the institution.
He said that the INEC, Nigeria’s election agency, conducted one of the worst polls in democratic history.
“What will you do if you seek redress and, at the end of the day, you don’t obtain a fair judgment?” .
“Well, what can I do? If the Supreme Court does not rule in my favor, I will turn to God,” he declared.
He stated that the integrity of the polls and electoral process is more essential than winning an election.
Abubakar received 29% of the vote, trailing Bola Tinibu of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), who received 37% of the vote and was declared President-elect.
