The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) for its transparency in the August 2022 General Election.
The African Ombudsman and Mediators’ Association (AOMA) recognized the commission on Wednesday for conducting the elections professionally, stating that the Wafula Chebukati-led body was non-partisan throughout the process.
AOMA Secretary General Florence Kajuju, who presented the Election Monitoring Report to IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan, praised the commission for holding the elections in accordance with the applicable electoral legislation.
“The Mission observed that IEBC officials conducted their mandate in a transparent, independent and impartial manner. Accredited Agents and Observers were granted access to the polling stations and tallying centres,” the association stated.
The Commission of Administrative Justice-Kenya and the Africa Ombudsman and Mediators’ Association collaborated on the 2022 General Election report (AOMA).
According to AOMA, all processes during the elections were carried out in a transparent way in the presence of political party agents, media, and observers.
Despite highlighting several points of contention, the association also stated that the results were generally accepted by the various contenders who competed for various positions and their supporters.
This comes as Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader continues to criticize the IEBC, accusing the commission of subverting the will of the people in the elections that saw his opponent William Ruto become Kenya’s fifth president.
