Azimio Demos: Raila’s Convoy Tear-Gassed At Pipeline

Police officers fired tear gas as opposition leader Raila Odinga’s entourage reached the Pipeline/Kware area of Embakasi South, Nairobi, just close to Outering Road.

Anti-riot police shot in the air and lobbed tear gas canisters into the crowd to disperse it.

Among the leaders who were part of the convoy that travelled from Capital Hill to Imara Daima to Mkuru Kwa Njenga and now Pipeline were Martha Karua (Narc Kenya), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Eugine Wamalwa.

Raila and his entourage left their Capital Hill offices around 1:20 p.m.

Raila led his supporters to Kawanagware and Kibra during Monday’s protests, contrary to earlier reports that he would meet them at the Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East.

The first protest took place on March 20, with Raila initially planning to lead protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

However, police blocked all roads leading to the city centre, forcing Raila and his supporters to detour to Mathare.

Despite a morning lull, anti-riot police have been stationed on major roads across all Nairobi and along highways.

Jacaranda Grounds was seen with police water cannons and anti-riot police on Thursday.
