Azimio Raila Takes Early Lead In New Poll

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga is the most preferred candidate in Nairobi, Mombasa and Makueni counties in the upcoming August 9 polls.

According to a Trends & Insights for Africa (Tifa) opinion poll released on Tuesday, May 3, Raila remains the most popular candidate in Nairobi County, with 41 percent, 48 percent in Makueni, and 50 percent in Mombasa.

He is closely followed by Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza at 26 percent in Nairobi 18 percent and 32 percent in Mombasa.

The survey further showed that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition is the most preferred party in Nairobi with 42 percent followed by Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA at 22 percent while 36 percent are undecided.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition also has the highest support in Mombasa at 41 percent followed by Kenya Kwanza at 27 percent and 32 percent remain undecided.

In Makueni, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leads with 62 percent followed by Kenya Kwanza with 13 percent as 24 percent are undecided.

The TIFA poll was conducted through telephone and face-to-face interviews and involved 1949 respondents from the three counties aged 18 years and above.
