Azimio DP Finalists To Wait Longer

The Azimio running mate selection panel has postponed the naming of Raila Odinga’s running mate from Wednesday, May 11 to Thursday, May 12.

Committee chairperson Dr. Noah Wekesa, speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, cited the absence of Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, who is in Coast region, for its decision.

However, Wekesa stated that Raila will be available on Thursday to receive the committee’s report.

The selection committee was expected to present the top three candidates to Azimio presidential candidate Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta, who would vet the candidates before making a final decision.

So far, the panel has interviewed Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua, Charity Ngilu of NARC, ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, and Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege.

Others include former Kenyan ambassador to Australia Stephen Tarus and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

Presidential candidates have until May 16th to submit the names of their running mates to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for verification.
