Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, better known as Babu Owino, celebrated his 36th birthday on October 10, 2025, with warm wishes pouring in from supporters across the country.
Many of them also praised his growing popularity as the leading candidate in the 2027 Nairobi governor race.
A recent survey by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), released in September 2025, shows Babu Owino in the lead with 28.1% support, ahead of current governor Johnson Sakaja, who has 16.4%.
The report credits Owino’s rising support to his strong connection with young voters, especially from Eastlands, and his focus on youth empowerment and better county management.
Supporters believe he can fix key problems facing the county, such as delayed salaries for workers, poor services, and youth unemployment. They describe him as a bold leader who speaks up for ordinary Nairobi residents.
However, not everyone agrees with his approach. Some critics say his tough and outspoken style might cause conflicts in leadership, while others see it as a sign of his determination to fight corruption and push for change.
As campaigns for the 2027 elections continue to take shape, Babu Owino’s influence among Nairobi’s young people and his strong online presence are setting the stage for a lively and competitive race for the city’s top seat.
