BasiGo, a Kenyan EV company, has produced its first bunch of buses, which will cost Ksh. 5 million.
The 25-seater electric bus, built with BYD Automotive components, will have a four-hour charge capacity retention, allowing for a 250-kilometer range before recharging.Â
Jit Bhatacharya, CEO and Founder of BasiGo, stated during the unveiling on Wednesday at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre that the move will usher in a cleaner future for public transit in Kenya (KICC).
“We are happy to be collaborating with two pioneering public service vehicle (PSV) providers, Citi Hoppa and East Shuttle, to provide Kenyans with their first opportunity to travel in an electric bus,” he said.
BasiGo has also partnered with Kenya Power to offer power to charge the batteries.
Interim Kenya Power CEO Rosemary Oduor, the firm has formed a liaison office that will serve as a one-stop shop to advocate the company’s e-mobility business and encourage the expansion of electric motorization in the nation.
