Benson Kipruto clocked 2:09:51 to secure a win at the men’s Boston Marathon race.
Kipruto’s victory in the Boston Marathon is his first of the year, but it is his second overall victory of the year after winning the Prague Marathon in 2021. Kipruto also took first place in the 2018 Toronto Marathon.
Last year’s marathon was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Boston Marathon was run for the 125th time, making it the world’s oldest annual marathon.
The race was meant to take place on the third Monday in April, as is typical, however, it was postponed because of the high number of COVID-19 cases.
To participate, all runners had to show proof of vaccination or a negative test.
Staggered start timings were also used for the first time in Boston Marathon history to account for social distancing.
