Solomon Kitungu, the Principal Secretary for Public Works, has praised Bodaboda operators for registering in large numbers during the ongoing national registration exercise.Â
Kitungu praised the riders for following the government’s directive, which aims to streamline the transportation sector and ensure the safety of both riders and passengers.
After witnessing the ongoing exercise at the Huduma Centre in Kitui town, the PS stated that the two-month initiative was being carried out at all Huduma centers across the country.Â
“Since the exercise began on the 24th of last month, a total of 1,030 raiders have registered at this Center, with at least 250 raiders registering daily, which is a good number,” he said.
The PS went on to say that once the riders are registered, they will be protected from being abused by other road users and that criminals will be weeded out of their midst.
The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) will also cover the first 200,000 licensed bodaboda riders in the country for a 12-month period.
Riders must present themselves in person with an original ID card, a copy of their KRA Pin Number, and an active registered phone number in order to register.
Following the processing of the registration information, a notification will be sent to the registered mobile number.
The registration drive, according to Kitungu, is aimed at all boda boda and motorcycle riders.
