Bodaboda Thug Saved By Police

A motorbike theft suspect in Kamulu has the police to thank after being saved from an irate mob baying for his blood.

The suspect was caught by an irate mob of boda boda riders after stealing a motorbike belonging to one of them, according to the police report.

At around 8 p.m., Morris Simiyu had dropped off a passenger in the Manyatta neighborhood and parked his bike not far from the road.

When he was about to approach a client to hire his services, a man suddenly leaped on his bike.

The man drove off as Simuyu screamed for help. Simiyu’s desperate screams caught the attention of fellow boda boda riders, who set out to reclaim the bike after learning about the incident.

Roughly 30 riders chased down the criminal with their bikes, according to witnesses.

The bandit who could no longer keep up, skidded to a halt and hopped off the bike, deciding to run towards the police station, about 300 meters away.

But, before he could get there, the enraged riders apprehended him and beat him up.

It took the intervention of police officers from the post to save the life of the suspect, from the wrath of the angry mob of boda boda operators.

This incident follows the arrest of two suspects in Moyale three weeks ago, believed to be behind the spate of motorbike disappearances in the country.

The suspects who were in possession of over 350 logbooks and motorcycle number plates, were arrested by detectives following an operation that also led to the recovery of motorbikes stolen from western Kenya and other parts of the country.
