Sharlet Mariam has withdrawn her candidacy for the Msambweni Constituency by-election slated for December 15, 2020.
The former aide to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko announced that she would now be backing Omari Boga who will be vying on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket
Sharlet resolved to support ODM candidate Omar Boga for the forthcoming by-election after consulting with the party leader Raila Odinga.
She spoke on Tuesday at Millenium hotel in Ukunda when she reunited with her former party members.she left ODM for Jubilee party and later went independent.
She was considered among front runners to win the seat and her return will boost Odm chance of clinching the seat, against the daring Deputy president Rutos candidate Faisel Bader.
Jubilee failed to field a candidate for the Msambweni mini-poll to honor the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila.
Bader has the support of the Deputy President William Ruto.
Sharlet said she opted to return ODM because that’s where she belonged.
“Mimi ni msimamo wa kisiasa na nina muelekeo sana. Kwanza itambulike ya kuwa sijawahi kuwa mwanachama yeyote isipokuwa ODM. Yale yaliyofanyika waswahili husema usilolijua ni usiku wa giza na ni mambo mengine mimi siwezi kuzungumza. Yale mengine ilikuwa ni propaganda ata ile barua sikuiandika mimi,” she told journalists on Tuesday.
The seat was left vacant following the death of MP Suleiman Ramadhan Dori who succumbed to cancer in March this year.
Now all eyes turn on Faisal Bader with support of Deputy president versus Omar Boga with the blessings of ODM leader Raila Odinga, with Kalonzo Musyoka promising to surmount a challenge with wiper candidate
