The Committee on Health has launched an investigation into the death of Travis Maina, a two-year-old boy from Kiambu County.

The Committee, led by Uasin Gishu Senator Mandago, said it had put in place measures to help identify lapses that may have resulted in the minor’s death.

During the meeting, the Committee resolved to further investigate the matter by inviting several witnesses, including the parents of the deceased, Thika Level 5 Hospital, and KNH, to establish the circumstances that may have led to the tragedy.

Senator Mandago stated that the Committee’s findings will attempt to look at policy issues, particularly in the health facilities that handled the deceased’s case, and determine if there was negligence that resulted in the minor’s death.

Miana, whose photos went viral after a fork jembe became lodged in his head, died on the evening of October 11, 2022, after allegedly waiting too long for emergency treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The two-year-old boy died on the operating table, according to his mother.
