Britain pledges support to fight corruption and crime with DCI

UK’s Deputy High Commissioner and Permanent Representative to the UN in Nairobi Ms. Susie Kitchens has this morning paid a courtesy call on the Director Mr. George Kinoti – By Gerald Gekara.

Mr Kinoti thanked the deputy envoy for the continued support that the High Commission has extended to the Directorate most notably in training and provision of specialized crime management equipment.

On her part, the envoy lauded the Directorate for its relentless efforts in the fight against crime, noting that the desired results especially in the war against corruption were being realized.

She reiterated the commitment of her office in extending even more support to the Directorate.

Recently, the DCI has been working closely with the INTERPOL to counter car theft syndicates that hid stolen luxury vehicles from London.

Through corporations with the Interpol, DCI has managed to intercept high end cars at the Port of Mombasa.

In March 2019, some four million checks were carried out against INTERPOL databases, resulting in more than 800 positive hits. These included individuals wanted for terrorism, genocide, fraud and trafficking.

Following the terrorist attack in Nairobi in January 2019, at the request of Kenyan authorities, INTERPOL deployed a team within 24 hours to assist with disaster victim identification, criminal intelligence analysis, digital forensics and weapons and explosives expertise.

Data was exploited and investigative leads were established, stretching well beyond the borders of Kenya.
