Global K-pop sensation BTS took a major step toward a full-scale comeback on Tuesday, as members RM and V were officially discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service. Greeted by cheering fans outside the military base, the duo expressed gratitude and shared their excitement about returning to the stage.

Dressed in uniform and holding flower bouquets, RM and V saluted supporters and hinted at what’s next for the band. “Stage performance, I want to perform the most,” said RM, who delighted the crowd with a brief saxophone performance. “I’ll work hard to make an album soon and come back to the stage.”

The discharge of RM and V follows that of fellow bandmates Jin and J-Hope, who completed their service earlier and have since been active in solo projects and television appearances. The remaining members, Jimin, Jung Kook, and Suga, are expected to complete their service by June 21, according to local media, paving the way for a full BTS reunion.

BTS, which has not released a group project since 2022, has maintained a strong global presence through individual endeavors. However, fans have eagerly awaited a group comeback. “After pursuing our own little ventures, we are now coming back together, and I love that for us,” J-Hope told a magazine last December.

Anticipation is further building around HYBE’s upcoming BTS FESTA, a celebration marking the group’s 12th anniversary. While it remains unclear which members will attend, last year’s event featured an appearance by Jin, suggesting possible surprise participation this time around.

Excitement over the potential reunion has also boosted investor confidence. Shares in HYBE Co. Ltd. rose 2.3% on Tuesday, reaching their highest level in more than three years.

Fans from across the globe have flown into South Korea to welcome the returning idols. “It is just absolutely joyful. That is now four out, two again tomorrow and then Suga. Then we have OT7, we have seven kings back with us,” said 72-year-old Australian fan Philip Darbyshire.

As the countdown to a full reunion nears its final days, BTS’s message is clear: the kings of K-pop are preparing to reclaim their throne.
