Bungoma governor unveils new fund for Boda Boda operators

Bungoma County of Government through the department of Gender, Youth, Sports and Culture has partnered with United States African Development Fund (USADF) in providing credit through an initiative dubbed “Bungoma County Boda Fund” to make the boda boda enterprise sustainable.

The patnership seeks to address challenges faced by Bungoma Boda Boda operators in accessing motorbikes and also enhance their skills in business management through training them on entrepreneurship.

The deal also have riders trained on road safety and also support the youth to access and own the motor bikes.Speaking during the launch at the county headquarters, Governor Wangamati said Boda Boda business has alleviated poverty among the youth and noted his government’s responsibility in initiating more economically viable projects for them.

“We are looking forward to pumping money into this intiative to ensure success and progress. Today we are facilitating 20 youth to access bikes through this initiative, all drawn from Bungoma.” Wangamati said.

USADF representative, Mr. Wilson Omollo called on Boda Boda operators across Bungoma to take advantage of the partnership to access credit through Bungoma county Boda Fund to enable them acquire motorbikes.

On sustainable development, this initiative is set to transform the lives of Bungoma Boda Boda operators as each one of them is able to generate 1,000 shillings in a day translating to an income of over 30,000 in a month.

Wangamati also used the opportunity to highlight Progress of a number of key infrastructural projects that his Administration has rolled out across the county; the ongoing 6.5 Kms Musikoma-Kanduyi Dual carriageway, Construction of Kanduyi Stadium, 300 bed capacity hospital at Bungoma referral hospital, Governor’s Scholarship and many other projects.
