Busia: Students Hospitalized After Falling Into A Borehole

Three students from Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School in Busia have been hospitalized after falling into the school’s borehole.

According to Deputy Principal Elizabeth Ngaji, the three were standing atop the borehole when it caved in. The students were rescued and rushed to hospital.

“The students were taken to a private hospital in Bulanda, in the outskirts of Busia town,” Ngaji told Citizen Digital.

Kipchumba Ruto, Deputy County Commissioner for Busia, lauded the school administration for the quick response that resulted in the girls being rescued by teachers and support staff.

“We are glad that the school administration responded in good time. I would however like to urge all schools to maintain high standards of safety in their premises to avoid accidents of this nature,” Ruto noted.
