Dr Chris Kirubi, a well-known industrialist and one of Africa’s wealthiest businesspeople, has died.
Dr. Kirubi, who was also the Chairperson of Capital Group Limited, died on Monday, according to his family.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Christopher J. Kirubi who passed away today at 1 pm at his home after a long battle with cancer fought with fortitude, grace and courage,” his family said in a statement
Kirubi, also known as DJ CK on the radio, was named the second richest Kenyan by Forbes in 2011, behind the family of the country’s founding leader, President Jomo Kenyatta.
He has made it into the top 40 African richest list, where he is ranked 31st with a net worth of $300 million.
The late mogul led Haco Tiger Brands, and is also a stakeholder in a joint venture with Tiger Brands SA, which is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
He is also the CEO of Capital FM and owns significant shares in Centum, a Nairobi Stock Exchange-listed investment firm, UAP Insurance, and DHL’s Kenyan subsidiary.
He is also a shareholder in Nairobi Bottlers, a Coca-Cola bottling franchise.
