In Kiambu, police are looking into an incident in which a man shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.
Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga, 42, a licensed gun owner, is accused of killing his 30-year-old wife Phelomena Njeri in their bedroom Friday night.
According to a police report, Mukundi’s buddy, Robert Charango Njuguna, notified detectives at Kiambu Police Station to suspicious activities.
Mukundi was not responding his phone calls, according to Njuguna. It was around 6 p.m. at the time.
The report states, “Together with police from Kiambu Police Station, they headed to his house where the bedroom was found lock (ed) from the inside.”
“The door was broken where the bodies of the said Jonathan and Phelomena were found.” The woman was heavily pregnant.
The report adds, “It was established that Jonathan who is a licensed fire arm holder murdered the wife by shooting her the head and then committed suicide by shooting himself on the head using afire arm make glock mini s/no beza475.”
Police secured the scene for further investigations. The two bodies were moved to Kenyatta Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
