Cabinet Nominees To Be Vetted Before November 3

President William Ruto officially submitted to parliament a list of cabinet nominees for consideration, paving the way for the vetting process.

On Thursday, October 6, afternoon, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula relayed the President’s message communicating the 22-member cabinet and Attorney General nominee Justin Muturi.

After resolving the stalemate over the majority and minority leaders, the National Assembly will quickly turn its attention to the appointment of members of the House Business Committee, which includes the majority and minority leaders, as well as the whips, and is traditionally formed seven days after a new parliament is sworn in.

The committee’s responsibilities include, among other things, selecting committee members, such as members of the House Appointments Committee, which examines cabinet candidates.

Wetangula directed the National Assembly clerk, Ms. Serah Kioko, to publicize the place and time of the cabinet nominee hearings. He also requested that the House Appointments Committee convene and submit its report by Tuesday, October 27.

Following the report’s suspension, the House will have seven days to debate and make a decision by November 3.

The law gives MPs 28 days from the date of notification to complete the process of approving or rejecting the nominee.
