Barca Wins Over Cadiz, Amid Medical Emergency

Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma raced across the field with a medical kit and flung it into the bleachers.

Barcelona’s La Liga game against Cadiz was called off for roughly 50 minutes due to a medical issue by a supporter.

When the event occurred, the visitors were ahead 2-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Before the players were pulled off, Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma raced across the field with a medical kit and flung it into the bleachers.

“We all agreed to suspend [the game],” Barcelona boss Xavi stated after the supporter was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

“This goes beyond football; we’re talking about a human life here,” he added.

“Fortunately, they were able to save him.”

There were two further goals when play resumed as Barca moved top of the table thanks to a fourth successive league win.

Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong swept in the opener for Barca while Poland striker Robert Lewandowski slid in the visitors’ second shortly after his introduction as a substitute.

He has now scored nine goals in six appearances since his summer move from Bayern Munich.

Fellow substitute Ansu Fati added a third while France forward Ousmane Dembele rounded off the scoring late on.

Xavi’s side sit a point above champions Real Madrid, who play Mallorca on Sunday (13:00 BST).

Barcelona have scored 15 times and conceded just once since their opening-day stalemate against Rayo Vallecano.
