Catholic Bishops Ask Gen Z To Call Off Protests

The Kenyan Conference of Catholic Bishops has called on the youth to consider dialogue after deadly protests saw innocent lives cut short.

In a press briefing signed by the Catholic clergy, the bishops offered condolences to families who lost loved ones in the recent protests and condemned police brutality.

“We condemn the brutal and inhumane acts of the police, nnot be justified. The concerns raised by Gen Z remain genuine in our eyes. We share your cry due to unemployment, lack of school fees for many families, failed promises, and a seemingly bleak future.”

They acknowledged the grievances of young people concerning unemployment, lack of opportunities, and a failing economy.

“No doubt the Finance Bill would have brought still more suffering. However, no one needed to lose a life in these constitutional protests.”

The Bishops praised the unity shown by young people during the protests and pledged to work with them to build a better future.

“We have admired the unity beyond tribe or social class which is a sign of true care and love. This should increase your commitment to good causes. We send you this message as an assurance that we wish to accompany you, as we all need one another.”

The Anti-Finance Bill protest that took place in major towns, across Kenya, forced President William Ruto to withdraw the contentious document.

However over 10 people lost their lives and scores others suffered gunshot wounds.

President Ruto has since called the youth to the table , despite rallying calls for him to resign.
