Catholic Church To Build School In Oaklands, Next To Tatu City

The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi will build a day school at Oaklands, the 1,400-acre mixed-use development near Tatu City, underscoring the population growth and surging demand for academic institutions in the area.

Oaklands is strategically located just seven kilometres from Ruiru, Africa’s sixth fastest-growing town, and 800 metres from the entrance to Tatu City, the 5,000-acre new city and Special Economic Zone on Nairobi’s doorstep. Oaklands is a green and safe environment with easy transport access, making it the ideal location for schools, businesses and individuals building their dream homes.

David Karimi, Deputy Country Head of Rendeavour Kenya, the owner and developer of Tatu City and Oaklands, said, “We are delighted to see the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi expanding its footprint to Oaklands. This initiative not only enriches the educational landscape of Kiambu County but also contributes to the area’s overall social and economic development.”

The Catholic Church operates many of the leading schools in Nairobi and Kiambu County, including St. Mary’s Schools, Loreto High School Limuru, Precious Blood High School Riruta, and MaryHill Girls’ High School Thika.

Oaklands has issued more than 1,400 secure and unencumbered title deeds to Kenyan homeowners, many of whom have already moved into their homes to enjoy Oaklands’ pristine landscape and easy access to the Thika Superhighway, which is just a few kilometres away. This growing ecosystem is fuelling the demand for education and other amenities.

Oaklands is also home to many leading businesses in Kito Business Park, where companies like Basco Paints, Osho Grain Millers, Megapipes and FullCare Medical Technology EPZ, a leading international producer of disposable medical devices employing over 5,000 Kenyans, are operational or under development.

Already in Oaklands, Oaklands Primary School, a government institution, educates more than 400 pupils from the local community. Rendeavour provides a daily high-nutrition meal to the schoolchildren, which has quadrupled enrolment, increased student nutrition, and led to higher exam scores. Over the lifetime of the meals program at Oaklands and Tatu City, Rendeavour has provided more than 1.2 million meals.
