Catholic Priest Weds In Githunguri, Says It’s God’s Will

Yesterday, guests were treated to a one-of-a-kind wedding of an ordained Catholic priest who married after defecting to the Catholic Charismatic church, a Roman Catholic splinter group.

Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru married Margaret Wanjira Githui in a colourful ceremony at Michael’s Pot Gardens in Ikinu Githunguri on Sunday.

Hundreds of the couple’s relatives and friends attended the wedding. On the same day, the Father was ordained a Roman Catholic priest.

Waiguru said that his decision to marry was a call from God, a dream he has been harbouring for years.

“I thank my wife for accepting to come and be also used by God so that we can show the world that it’s possible for somebody to serve God and have a family because God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman and he said it is not good for a man to be alone,” he said.

He was ordained again as a Charismatic priest and also solemnized his marriage. He said he can now say he has lived to his calling of priesthood.

“Many people who were in the occasion said they have never seen such a thing that you can have a wedding and an ordination at the same time.”

“I am very happy. To my wife, I promise to love you always,” he said.

The ordination ceremony was presided over by Bishop Patrick Mulau of Kirinyaga Charismatic church who said his church is solely Roman Catholic but differs only on the sacrament of Marriage where priests from his Church marry.
