Crucial CCTV footage has emerged as a central piece of evidence in the investigation into the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
Cameras along Wabera Street captured a man wearing a hood and carrying a bag loitering near the MP’s parked vehicle shortly before the fatal shooting.
The footage shows the suspect monitoring the car while the MP’s bodyguard stepped into a nearby M-Pesa shop to deposit money into the legislator’s phone.
After changing routes to avoid traffic, the team headed towards Valley Road.
When their car stopped at a red light, the gunman disembarked from the bike, walked to the car, and fired four shots at the MP through the window, hitting him in the chest and hand.
He fled on the waiting bike as the bodyguard, uninjured, tried to intervene.
The MP was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Detectives recovered three spent cartridges at the scene and are analyzing them for forensic evidence.
Investigators have questioned the driver, the bodyguard, and the M-Pesa attendant, and are reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the area.
The probe has now expanded to Kasipul constituency, as authorities explore the possibility of political motives behind the assassination.
