CHAN 2024: Kenya fined Ksh 2.5million over security lapses at Kasarani

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) with a KSh 2.5 million fine following a series of security breaches during Sunday’s CHAN 2024 opener between Kenya and DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium.

In an official report, the CAF Security Officer flagged several violations, including unauthorized access to restricted Public Security Areas (PSAs) and a stampede at Gate 11.

One of the most alarming incidents involved a motorbike dangerously weaving through the crowd, posing a safety threat to fans.

Fires were also lit behind the stands at Block 18, while CAF staff and protocol officers were reportedly blocked from accessing the VVIP section by state security personnel, including a member of the South African President’s protection team.

Adding to the list, a Falcon Private Security guard is accused of assaulting a CAF commercial staff member and a sponsor representative.

CAF is expected to monitor Kenya’s next fixtures closely, with further sanctions possible if similar incidents recur.

The Harambee Stars are set to face Angola today evening at the same venue, Moi Stadium Kasarani.
