Uganda: 14 Die After Consuming Cheap Alcohol

Seven of the deaths happened in Arua City's Mvara and Oluko areas, while seven more occurred in Madi Okollo District. 

At least 14 individuals have died after consuming locally produced alcohol in Uganda’s Arua city.

The first person died on Friday, according to the Uganda Daily Monitor. The others died during the course of the weekend. 

Seven of the deaths happened in Arua City’s Mvara and Oluko areas, while seven more occurred in Madi Okollo District. 

The drink usually comes packaged in small 200ml bottles and costs 39 cents, which is significantly less than the price of other alcoholic beverages. 

The bottle lacks the quality certification mark from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards

Several persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, and the location where the gin was made is now closed to the public.
