Chelsea Frustrated Again as Eze Fires Crystal Palace Equalizer

Chelsea endured fresh frustration in the Premier League on Saturday, conceding a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, while Newcastle United secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea has had a turbulent start to the season, claiming just one victory from their opening three league matches.

After suffering a defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea bounced back with a resounding 6-2 win over Wolves but faltered against Palace despite taking an early lead through Nicolas Jackson in the 25th minute.

Jadon Sancho, recently loaned from Manchester United, watched from the stands as Chelsea struggled to capitalize on their advantage. Palace’s Eberechi Eze drew the game level in the 53rd minute with a stunning curling shot from 20 yards, ending Chelsea’s 14-match winning streak against the Eagles in all competitions.

Maresca expressed his frustration over a missed second yellow card for Palace’s Will Hughes, which could have turned the tide in Chelsea’s favor.

In contrast, Newcastle shone at St James’ Park, where they built on an impressive first-half performance. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring with a magnificent volley in the 37th minute.

Although Tottenham equalized through a Dan Burn own goal, Newcastle regained the lead thanks to Alexander Isak’s tap-in after a brilliant assist from Jacob Murphy, marking the Magpies’ second win of the season.

The results leave Chelsea grappling with inconsistency while boosting Newcastle’s confidence ahead of their next match against Arsenal.

As for Liverpool, they prepare for an eagerly awaited showdown with Manchester United on Sunday, with new Reds manager Arne Slot poised to experience the intensity of this historic rivalry firsthand.
