Chepchoina settlement in Trans Nzoia and West Pokot County want to file a case with the International Criminal Court against Kenya’s government for what they claim is inhumane and unlawful eviction from their land.
More than 800 families residing at Kaboto under the phase two scheme were evicted last year to allow vetting of the Squatters who benefited from that land.
Squatters at the Chepchoina settlement take the government to the International Criminal Court.
This is the land dispute that has dominated Kenyan courtrooms since last year’s standoff between Kenyan courts and Chepchiona group squatters, who evicted over 8000 residents.
Squatters have vowed not to participate in the August 2022 general election if the matter is not looked upon.
His Excellency the Late President Arap Moi awarded the land, which was originally owned by an agricultural organization, to resettle squatters.
As details have emerged in Kitale town, the land and environment high court has set aside the squatters’ application for land ownership, accusing the government of frustrating their efforts.
The Chepchiona group of squatters have been tussling over the planned subdivision of market source acres of land today and have vowed to continue tussling as this land dispute proceeds to the International Court of Justice (ICC).
